Developmental/Structural Editing

Developmental (or structural) editing focuses on the big picture of your manuscript—how the story is shaped, organized, and experienced by the reader. This stage assesses the overall structure and content to ensure a clear, coherent, and purposeful narrative. I’ll look at plot, pacing, character development, point of view, and thematic cohesion. I may identify gaps or redundancies and suggest changes in order, structure, and story arc to improve pacing and impact. Together, we will reshape your work into its strongest form. You’ll receive a detailed editorial letter and in-manuscript comments.

Manuscript Evaluation

Sometimes you don’t need someone to edit every sentence. You need a thoughtful reader who can step back and look at the whole story. That’s what manuscript evaluation is designed to do. I’ll read your manuscript with an editor’s eye and give you a clear picture of what’s working, where the story may be losing momentum, and where a revision could make the biggest difference. Think of this service as a high-level, strategic roadmap. I’ll look at plot and structure, pacing, character arcs, point of view, setting, voice, themes, and the expectations of your genre and readers. You’ll receive a detailed editorial report with practical suggestions you can take into your next draft.

Writing Workshops

I offer one-on-one and group workshops for writers at any stage, from the blank page to final revisions. Whether you’re starting out, working through the muddy middle, or rewriting a chapter or a full draft, I provide support when and how you need it. This is a great way to ask questions and get help on anything that’s troubling you without committing to a full edit.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final, fresh-eyed check for errors that may have slipped through earlier rounds of editing. It focuses on things such as typos, spelling, punctuation, grammar, consistency, and formatting issues. If the manuscript has already been laid out, proofreading can also catch problems introduced during the formatting process, such as awkward page breaks or missing text. You will receive on-the-page edits using Adobe Pro or Microsoft Word. I will flag problems, but I will refrain from making changes to keep the formatting in place.

Copyediting

Copyediting is about making sure the manuscript is correct, consistent, and complete. This includes grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, and continuity, as well as keeping track of details such as character names, relationships, timelines, settings, and other story facts. I’ll flag anything that seems inconsistent, unclear, or factually questionable and keep a style sheet to track important editorial decisions. You will receive on-the-page edits using Microsoft Word track changes and comments, and a style sheet.

Stylisting/Line Editing

Stylistic editing focuses on how the story is told, sentence by sentence and paragraph by paragraph. It looks at clarity, flow, tone, mood, word choice, and rhythm, while helping the prose feel polished and purposeful. The goal isn’t to make the writing sound like mine—it’s to strengthen the writing while protecting your individual voice and style. You will receive on-the-page edits using Microsoft Word track changes and comments.
